Me in my home & studio at Panieńska Street, Warsaw; 2018

Małgosia Malinowska was born in 1984 in Warsaw, Poland.

She studied Painting at The Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw and at Academia di Belle Arti di Brera in Milan. She received her Master of Fine Arts degree with honors from The Warsaw Academy in 2009.

In 2010 she did post-graduate work in the Art & Design Program at the Central Saint Martins College in London. Scholarship from The National Academy School in New York brought her to USA where she completed The Studio Art Intensive Program. Her diploma exhibition voted best of the year 2016 won her a residency to La Napoule Art Foundation in France.

She has exhibited many individual and group exhibitions in Europe and overseas. She was a participant in the famous Creative Mischief exhibition series at The National Academy Museum in New York.

Her paintings are in private collections in New York, San Paulo, Canberra, London, Milan, Warsaw and many more.

Malgosia Malinowska describes herself as a painter with an old soul, connected more with the 19th century atmosphere than with the contemporary times. An abandoned castle, perhaps in France, with a forgotten garden, would be a perfect place for her studio. But it’s the 21st century… and here she is.

She chooses traditional oil painting techniques, pays attention to detail, and works long hours, depending on the light of day. The unique choice of colors, the final touches done with tiny brushes using varnish make her paintings laborious and neat.

She paints mainly imaginary portraits with a strong psychological presence. They come from the past, often uninvited. She feels a subconscious awareness of the hunting images that have lived with her since she was a little girl. Although they are from another dimension, she makes them immortal on her canvas.

“I measure my life time with my paintings. They take the lead. I call my style of work personal realism. I am extremely sensitive to my surroundings. I cannot stand any sign of ugliness. If I could, I would rearrange the whole world to make it look pretty. On my paintings, time is still, but the subject matter is delicate. I try to capture the moment of youth in my imaginary models, but there is also a certain sharpness to them. They make me feel committed, connected and responsible, so I can’t spoil it! With art life is never dull”, she says.
