„I love me” is a working title for a series of paintings and drawings created for my diploma degree at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. All of them are my self portraits- hens the title. Staring than my own nudity became the main subject in my work for two years, at least. There is a story behind it. My first love was my art teacher. During finishing my studies I was also finishing on this major relationship. Torn and confused I would paint my own desire to put it in perspective. And also to be visible to my lover.

I was one of three distinguished students at the Academy obtaining the Best Diploma award in 2009. The price put my works i

but they were latter on censored and put in the back.

I paint myself, naked with legs gaped open. I want to show how I make love, how I touch myself. Sexuality, that is sometimes the cause of perdition, becomes the way of searching for identity.

In my diploma works I search for my world inside myself. Dejected, disappointed and irritated with the world around me I lock myself inside the four walls to contemplate my countenance. Every good painter should be a bit narcissistic, like Picasso said, meaning ‘love beauty with all their heart’. My narcissism very palpably manifests itself by the obsession about my own body. It becomes a reason for creating self-portraits. Autoerotism generates energy that wants to be released. This sexuality naturally appears in my work and becomes the subject of my paintings. The need to express what is important in life is the creative foundation. I express myself, my sex.
I put myself on the canvas as a huge exclamation mark, to highlight that I am here, that I can feel.

„Presentiment on ones carnality is accompanied with
the need for the other human being’s body. Self-statement
appears in screaming for feelings, attention, passion, truth.
This is my waiting for a prince charming that will give me
fulfillment, tame me, satisfy.

I would like to paint the touch,
eroticism, in flash and bone, overwhelming emotion, desire
for love. All this happens between the lines as I expose my
nudity in not clearly verbalized way.” Małgosia Malinowska
